Description
Black and White Negative Store interior. Opening day. Johnson's Drug Store, on 12th Ave., owned by the Tokuda family. Fourth from left: George Tokuda (in dark suit). The men in white jackets are pharmacists. The store was moved to 18th and Yesler, then to 14th and Yesler. During the World War II incarceration, the store was repeatedly pilfered and it was ultimately sold. When the Tokuda family returned to Seattle, they found a "No Japs Allowed" sign on the door. They worked, saved money, bought the store back, and moved it to 17th and Jackson where it became Tokuda Drug. It later moved to Main St., next to the Panama Hotel. Floyd Horiuchi took over the business in 1979. It was closed in 2005.
