Small orange paper mache mask of male face with exaggerated features facial hair has been added on with quick black strokes. Gold paint highlights the eyes and a mole on the forehead. The nose is very long with protruding cheeks a pulled-up chin and wrinkled brow. Obverse reveals characters from the newspaper used to form the mask. A red strip with Japanese characters dangles loosely from the center. The word "Tengu" written in the back. The masks are worn by players or comics in skits or comic recitals at local festivals as part of the public entertainment.
