Doll representing Emperor Jimmu A: Separate head molded from wood paste and dipped in gofun (oyster shell powder). Painted black eyebrows hairline and lower eyelashes painted red lips glass inlaid eyes 2 curved wrinkles on forehead long black silk fiber beard black silk fiber hair is gathered at top with loose end set in loops tucked and tied with hair in two places peg which fits into body. B: Body of standing figure with left hand raised and right hand at side. Wearing 4 layers of kimono 3 layers are white undergarments showing at the collar. The long silk brocade outer garment haas tan and gold floral designs on a light beige background. Sleeve ends are gathered with white silk cords having purple and white tassels and a white lining shows. Gold painted paper in woven straw design with green hem and white flower are wrapped above his wrists to indicate 4 layered underneath the outer garment. He wears a gold/brown/purple brocade belt around the waist which is tied in a bow at front. The belt appears to be made of silk and stiffened has a tassel at the ends. On his back he wears a back support made of paper with green background and a white cherry blossom design with orange trim which is made of silk braid. The outer garment is split at sides with border trim of a silk brocade light green olive green and yellow; it is lined with white fabric (probably rayon) and wired at hem sides and front from waist down. He wears green hakama lined with white fabric and tied below the knees with white cord. The hakama seems to be made of rayon. He wears a pair of brocade boots of the same fabric and design as the belt material with six shoe lace hooks on each. They are tied around the ankles with blue cord. C: Necklace with irregularly shaped beads called "Magatama" in yellow green blue in a pair with white tube shaped glasses strung alternately with imitation pearls at upper center. Two glass rods and a pointed 8 petal medallion represent a mirror (important in Japanese mythology) D: Sword made of wood papier mache guard painted in metallic gold handle wrapped with papier mache strips to achieve the look of rattan. The sword is straight and does not draw out. The scabbard's ends are painted in gold and the center is chocolate brown. Faded green silk cord is wrapped below the stopper with one end left loose to attach the sword to the body. Condition: Hair at the front is missing. Left sideburn and right finger are chipped; worn paint on scabbard.
