Description

Doll representing Momotaro (Peach Boy) Standing figure of young boy made of molded wood paste dipped in gofun (oyster shell powder) has bald head and black silk fiber hair with loose earlocks inserted above ears. Plump white standing body is posed in a very active stance with one arm outstretched and palm of the hand facing upward to hold a peach. The other arm is held away from the body and may have held a staff. Wearing faded orange silk crepe chanchanko vest stiffened with white paper; faded gold couched thread design of a spinning top and cord on center back; both fronts have the same design. Underneath is a green silk crepe bib edged with orange crepe glued to the doll; faded gold couched thread design of circular water ripples with a light embroidered water lily below and a green embroidered waterdrop above. No pants. Condition: Hole at top of head originally had hair fiber inserted some damage to one ear a cracked foot and a tear in the back of the jacket.
