Description

Doll representing a standing male in brown kimono and white organdy pants with removeable head A: Separate head molded from wood paste and dipped in gofun (oyster shell powder); painted gray eyebrows hint of shaven bluish chin and hairline red painted mouth inlaid black eyes; hair of black silk fiber is tied together at top back (part of the hair is missing). B: Body is standing with left leg stepping forward to the side left hand is down and right is raised slightly. Brown satin weave silk kimono striped in silver gold brown orange crepe lining shows at sleeves; at neck two collars show--the upper one has worn away so only cardboard shows and lower one is covered with green satin; kimono is tattered. Organdy right sleeve attached to hakama hangs at back has decorative silk stitch in plum color and only the remnants of the left sleeve shows near waist; lower organdy hakama pants are tucked in at ankle; belt material is deteriorating where it should tie in front upper part of out kimono shows at back; Condition: Hakama organdy is deteriorating revealing stuffing and paper. Gofun dipped hands and feet in pinkish color; the gofun on right arm and left heel is worn off and reveals wood paste under heel. Possibly a figure of an actor (based on striped kimono)
