BAMBOO AND PAPER NON-FOLDING JAPANESE FAN one side has painted flowers (pinks) other side has writing. both sides printed on background of stiff cream-colored paper. shape of fan is round with round bamboo stick for handle. bamboo handle is sliced many times along the grain at the top into strands. strands spread in rays to support paper. bamboo strip threaded through hole below strands and is curved upwards in cresent to complete circle shape of fan. orange silk tassles tied on each end of cresent. on written side of paper in cursive writing and bold print are words: Gyokko-ken Cafe. below in bold is printed J.FUGII. Prop.. In capital letters below is printed: CHOP-SUEY + CHOW MEIN and below that is the address: 510 Main St. Seattle.4 Wash. Tel MAin 3662. characters are printed below and when translated mean: High Class Chinese RestaurantSeattle City Main St. 510 Gyokko-Ken Tel.#. at bottom in small type is printed: Made in occupied Japan. reverse side is painted with pink flowers. there are tree large ones and five buds. the long green stalks have slim sharp leaves. artist's name "Hyashi" in charaters printed on right with a red "chop". base of handle painted black Water damage to both sides causing brown spots and pink from flowers to run.
