This cotton cloth is off the bolt . The top is left unhemmed and the bottom of the cloth seems to have been hemmed at one time but this hem has been removed (marked by perforations in the cloth) The cloth's motif has been applied in the wax resist method. The cloth is dyed brown with white undyed areas representing old style chinese characters. Each character is separated from the characters around it by parallel lines which create an abstract grid throughout the piece with a character in each square.
