Description

This piece is made of silk cloth and silk embroidery thread. It consists of 2 pieces of cloth. A red cloth with a plaid weave for the backing and a flat dark blue silk weave for the front on which the embroidery is done. The piece features two figures in Edo period dress. The figure to the right is of a man looking toward the other figure. The figure to the right wears a hat and a top with a traditional star pattern in gold and light blue thread. The pants are a plaid looking pattern in green and rust. The figure wears light blue tabi and sandals. The face is of a young man. The figure to the left is of an older man with a hat. He holds a taiko on his shoulder. The top that he wears is a woven look in green and blue thread with a plaid lining in yellow and light blue. The pants are in white and brown thread representing plaid. He wears tabi and sandals also. Pine branches are scattered at the top and bottom of the piece. The embroidery is very detailed and intricate. The figures are bordered by a line of red thread which holds the two cloths togerher. The top two corners have light green silk cord knotted from them. probably to hang the piece. There are a couple of dark smudges to the top left.
