Candlestick

Title

Candlestick

Description

Metal candle holder in the shape of a flower possibly used for Ikebana flower arranging. The top is formed in the shape of a plum blossom curving up at the edges. In the middle there are raised stamens and a metal cup-shaped holder is riveted to the center of the flower. There are vertical ridges on the outside of the cup. Beneath the blossom is a metal branch which is flattened and curved so that the main branch and two side branches act as legs. The main branch has raised lines representing bark. Three smaller branches extend from the side of the main branch and curve under the blossom. One sub-branch has two leaves the second has a flower bud and a leaf and the third shortest branch has one leaf. The leaves and buds have incised lines indicating veins and petals. On the bottom under the flower shape is a brass cone shaped leg. The metal is flat black color with mossy green accents representing a copper patina.
