Driftwood

Title

Driftwood

Description

Two pieces of driftwood used for Ikebana flower arranging. A; The outside piece of a burl U-shaped with smooth outer surface and knobbly growths. On the inside the surface is rough and has yellowish deposits of sap in places. The wood is reddish and yellow brown. On the inside the donor's name "Uno" is printed in black felt pen and also on black vinyl tape attached to the wood. B: Long piece of driftwood light brown in color curved to one side at the top in a wave-like effect. A split piece on one side extends out from the side. On the bottom a molded metal kenzan needle flower holder has been screwed into the wood. The green paint is chipping and the screw is rusty. Some of the needles are bent and as a result the screw is not fitted properly. The purpose of the kenzan is to insert it into another kenzan in a flower arrangement to secure the driftwood in an upright position as a part of the arrangement.
