Silk Fragment

Fragment of rose colored silk hand lettered in black ink with three sections of text which pledges the allegiance of numerous signees belonging to a secret brotherhood supporting the activities of the Chinese Nationalists. Plain woven silk with handwritten Chinese characters. Both selvages are still intact but the top and bottom are frayed so that portions of the text are missing. According to Tzu-an Chang (Intern 1997-98) this declaration would have been copied several times so that each of the signees could receive their own copy of the document.
