The masking tape with the name "Mrs. Coe" on the inside lining indicates that this robe was one that was loaned to the museum in 1975. See Mrs. Herbert Coe donor file. The gown may have been donated at that time, but the records are incomplete (see Decemeber 20, 1975 letter).

Description

Chinese Woman's Robe Salmon pink damask silk with medallion woven-in design; edges and trimmed with bands of machine woven ribbon in blue with pink and light green floral design embroidered black satin with floral embroidery in green pink and blue bias black satin edging. The sleeve has white satin embroidered with blue pink and purple silk embroidered butterflies and flowers bands. Jewel neck with black satin bias binding and a lined front flap which opens diagonally; 5 black loops and 5 cast metal ball buttons in blossom shape. Bright green lining.
