Black cotton velvet pillbox hat with red fringe tassel on top. Red cotton lining with horsehair-like band sewn around inside edge. A navy blue cotton bias covering a string sewn on each side. Circular band of black cotton velvet topped by red fringe held in center by small circle of gold brocade with 2 red thread-wrapped wire-like semi- circles standing upright. Around the top of the black velvet band the red fringe is held in place by a stiff wire(?) covered with red thread and held in place by stitches at intervals. The red fringe then hangs over the edge of the velvet band. The hat is lined in red cotton with horsehair-like band sewn around in side edge. A navy blue cotton bias covering a string is sewn on each side.
